An antidote to feeling stressed and overwhelmed in our daily life. Yet in reality there is often a hangover, a post holiday 'meh' feeling when we return to reality on Monday. The escape lasts until it ends and reality, especially a lot of so called succesful peopleâs reality, which letâs face it can often feel pretty overwhelming â kicks in
Wouldnât it be great to ditch feeling stressed and overwhelmed by our work - for feeling as excited and curious about our work as we used to feel, when we were dreaming about âwhat we would beâ when we started outÂ
After being inspired by his daughter to try making a TikTok video, a video of him skateboarding while lip-synching Fleetwood Macâs âDreamsâ would mean he ended up launching a merchandise line, starring in commercials with Snoop Dogg, buying a house, and even appearing in President Joe Biden's virtual inauguration parade
Their fiftieth-anniversary album âDonât Stopâ and the incredible âRumoursâ would be the third most-streamed album and third highest-selling vinyl of 2021, respectively
The thing is, we never do know what tomorrow will bring - but what is definitely true is that if we donât take some risks, if we donât challenge ourselves and re-imagine ourselves - life is still going to happen, even if we are standing still, the meter is still ticking, life is st...
Â
In fact, social connection can lower anxiety and depression, help us regulate our emotions, lead to higher self-esteem and empathy, and actually improve our immune systems. Studies show that the positive influence of social relationships on the risk of death are comparable with well-established risk factors for mortality such as smoking or alcohol consumption and exceed the influence of other risk factors, such as physical inactivity and even obesity (Holt-Lunstad, Smith, & Layton, 2010)
So, if we put as much effort into building strong connections with people as the effort we put into our diet and exercise (the gyms, the equipment, the outfits, the diets, the vitamin supplements, the list goes on âŚ) we may actually live longer. How sh...
I admired their grit and determination as for sure, the challenge of how to enable our children to thrive by helping them build mental strength is one of the biggest challenges we face as a society today, especially post the pandemic
All around the world, the headlines inform us that we are all facing a monumental mountain of mental wellbeing issues in young people. We are swapping worrying about whether our kids will get the right grades with worrying about if they will either burnout through the pressure of perfectionism or drop out altogether through the feelings of somehow not fitting in because they arenât the most successful tiktoker in their class. Yet taken to the extreme â I could also see the perfectionist parenting pitfalls
Progressfull Mind-set Morning routine â how to 'sort yourself out' and 'set yourself up' for a fulfilling day
There is a lot of chat about morning routines and we at Progressfull have something to share with you on this topic
Well, to be honest with you, often the very first thing our high performing clients say, from 16 year old students, to artisan bakers, to assistant directors in the film and tv industry, through to CEOs of conglomerates or start-ups â is that they are on the edge of burn-out. Overwhelmed by pressure â both from others and also from our own high standards - most of us have too much to do in too little time.
At Progressfull, our response to th...
â until I realised that actually â I had an opportunity to change my perspective, to start taking the first small steps forwards towards unlocking my potential. Put simply - to make progress instead of staying stuckÂ
So I did. And guess what â I am even more shocked now â by how much untapped potential not only I have, but that, in fact, we all have â if we would simply learn to âWelcome FeedbackâÂ
What it boils down to, is that we are all nearly always capable of achieving much, much more than we currently are â in pretty much all areas of our lives â whether as a coder, a chef or a CEO â  we simply lack a different perspective, a different skill-set, a different take on what we can doÂ
We often lack perspective on our own potential because we feel we donât have the time or courage to shine a light into the bli...
We are so used to society, social media, friends, family telling us what we should be doing, eating, wearing â we often lose sight of our own view of who we want to be and how we want to live our lives
The thing is â itâs actually quite easy to be swept along with the rest of the world â when we havenât ever really stopped to think about who we really, truly want to be and how we want to live our own life. Even the big choices we make in life, like if and what to study, where to live, and what job to do, are often more influences of those around us, than our own true choices
So thatâs why, even if you think it might sound a bit like naval gazing, in truth â working out how to live life on your own terms might be almost as important as learning how to read and write
Socrates summed this up when he said,Â
Itâs true that weâre living in a world thatâs more conducive to anxiety than playfulness. In the endless to-do list of being an adult, play really does feel like a waste of time. We burn ourselves out with anxieties, worries and tasks we should or have to do, rarely believing we have time or energy for activities we actually want to doÂ
The thing is, we know itâs important for kids to play, but it is actually even more important for adults. This is because, often one of the reasons we are so anxious and wound up in the first place, is because we struggle to adapt to all the change around us, we get stuck in our ways - as George Bernard Shaw famously said,Â
While our current beliefs, behaviours, and mind-sets may be useful in some way...
You arenât alone - we are all aware of the increase in the number of people feeling anxious or stressed in todayâs world, in fact in 2021 more than 8,000 children in the UK picked 'anxiety' as the top choice when asked for the words they would use to discuss health and wellbeing
Whatâs more⌠we also know these feelings of stress and anxiety not only detract from our overall sense of wellbeing, they are also not helping our productivity and performance - at work, at home in our whole life
In fact, they are harmful to our bodies as well as our minds, to say nothing of the impact we have when we appear anxious and stressed on our friends and loved ones and frankly, also our credibility at work. But what can we actually do about it? Especially because some of the factors which are making us feel this way, may appear to be so far out of our control?
IÂ don't know about you, but we hear a lot of people talking about 'Showing Up'
The thing is what does it actually mean? In fact, some people even go so far as to say that Showing Up is the start of making great things happenâŚ
Yet Showing Up is not always easy, in fact we definitely agree with Brene Brown who says,
One minute we are mid pandemic, wondering whether we should or shouldnât be wearing masks, then we are confronted by the tragic situation in the Ukraine, then we have the financial impact of all this on prices for essential items such as fuel and food
Yup, for a lot of us, our current reality is tough
Not surprising then, that some of us are floundering. How to look forwards when we don't know what forwards looks like anymore? Hard to hope, when everything around us is in havoc
I don't know if you have noticed though, some of us are â dare we say it - flourishing. Some of us are deftly pivoting...
