Stop imposter syndrome, start choosing confidence

A lot of people  - and we are talking very, very 'super successful' people - tell us that they suffer from imposter syndrome

Famously, even the multi award winning actress Meryl Streep is quoted as saying,

“You think, why would anyone want to see me again in a movie? And I don’t know how to act anyway, so why am I doing this?”

What is fascinating is that these ‘super successful’ people are often falling for the myth that everyone else surrounding them is way more confident and composed than they themselves are. The Meryl Streep sentiment is playing on repeat in their mind

It's fascinating because we often don't realise that the reason you can’t hear other people’s inner monologues of self-doubt isn’t that they don’t have them. It’s because you only have access to your own mind, your own imposter syndrome playing repeat, minute by minute, hour by hour

With 2 Number 1 albums, 7 Grammys and 104m followers on Instagram it’s clear that Billie Eilish is smashing it – wouldn’t it feel great to be as confident as she must feel as she headlined Glastonbury 2022 alongside Paul McCartney and Kendrick Lamar?

And yet…Billie owned that electrifying, unique headline performance. With a beaming smile throughout, her stunning iconic set on the pyramid stage at Glastonbury made her the festival’s youngest ever solo headliner

How incredible that this hugely brave and talented young woman reveals so openly that she suffers from impostor syndrome

Impostor syndrome is a fear that our capabilities will be...

The snake of uncertainty brings with it small, sneaking, daily confrontations with tricky choices, the relentless drip, drip, drip of new decisions, draining our energy and distracting our focus

With every glimmer of fun and freedom, we now peer into the shadows, calculating the risks and assessing the new behaviours to adopt. To keep safe, to keep strong. We have swapped worrying about 'if our job has enough purpose' for 'will I still have a job' and 'how do I keep myself and my family safe'. The statistics collaborate with our instinctive refocus on the basics of survival - whether looking at the economy, the local area R number, or the 30% of Corona survivors who are now likely to suffer PTSD

Yup, for pretty much all of us, our current reality is...
