Ever wondered why a lot of us give up on New Year's Resolutions, year after year going round and round in circles, coming back to the same New Year's Resolution a year later?
One of the most profound and important things to take on board when we decide we want to switch it up and make some big changes in our lives - and goodness knows that is definitely what a lot of us are going for at this time of year - is that whilst we are all potential of achieving so much more in our lives, we are in fact already enough, just as we are
It's tricky this, because on the one hand, real change is created by newfound determination, new routines, new beliefs, behaviours, and mind-sets - and above all new motivation (the dictionary definition of 'new motivation' being a reason to act or behave in a particular new way)
Yet unless we start from a position of really, truly accepting where we are starting from - who we are and why we are the way we are - we are not able to deal with the root cause of the things we want to change. This means we don't identify the right new actions, the best new behaviours to actually create the change we really want. What's more, we may not in fact value ourselves enough to put in the effort which real change, real improvement, real reinvention requires
So, for many of us, the key to stopping the madness of doing the same thing each year, the key to unlocking our progress and potential, the key to truly reinventing ourselves is starting with realising that reinvention is 100% our choice and 100% within our power and 100% about starting from the right place - a place of self-acceptance
The thing is self-acceptance means Showing Up and acknowledging that two opposite facts are both true - that we want to learn and grow, as well as acknowledging that we have flaws, wonkiness, imperfections, through knocks and breaks - we are not perfect
You mean we have to let go of the Disney dream of perfect princes and princesses living in fairytale castles with cute little talking snowmen and face into the reality of hard work, pandemics, disappointments, bad tempers & boredom?
Yes my dears, we do
In spite of everything, we have worth, we have value and we all have incredible potential to live lives making progress every day, (not just making New Year's Resolutions once a year) - step by step, bite by bite - making progress at work, at home, in our whole lives
The great news is to help us do this, Progressfull have created a Progresslift (our name for a chapter) called 'Believing in myself & more' where we share content & tools to help you develop the belief's, behaviours and mind-sets that help you reveal who you truly are and realise that you are enough, to use Lao Tzu's iconic expression - that there is in fact nothing lacking and the world does indeed belong to you
We share the content and tools and also how you can adopt and apply them to your own life, in our Showing Up Upskill (our name for course or masterclass)
