It’s true that we’re living in a world that’s more conducive to anxiety than playfulness. In the endless to-do list of being an adult, play really does feel like a waste of time. We burn ourselves out with anxieties, worries and tasks we should or have to do, rarely believing we have time or energy for activities we actually want to do
The thing is, we know it’s important for kids to play, but it is actually even more important for adults. This is because, often one of the reasons we are so anxious and wound up in the first place, is because we struggle to adapt to all the change around us, we get stuck in our ways - as George Bernard Shaw famously said,
While our current beliefs, behaviours, and mind-sets may be useful in some ways, they are certainly comforting and familiar - they often stop us from growing, adapting, spotting opportunities - even amongst the chaos - and unlocking our potential. Sadly, they can be the main cause of a lot of our anxiety, lack of energy and our feeling of being stuck and wonky
There are lots of reasons why it’s important to start working out how you can be more playful. Some of the most convincing benefits for being more playful is that it not only makes us more productive and speeds up learning but also increases job satisfaction. In addition, play helps us build relationships, communicating and collaborating better
Research indicates that people who are more playful possess better coping skills and are also less anxious and stressed. Being Playful keeps us calmer and keeps us on our A-game
Being Playful means we are more resilient, able to adapt to change more quickly, and create a more holistic sense of who we are - at home, at work, in our whole life - as a partner, a parent, a team-player, a friend, a leader, and an enthusiast for a particular sport or hobby. Look at children and you will see they do this naturally, they try new skills, they make up games, they join new teams, they try out a lot of stuff to see what will make them laugh the hardest, and have the most fun
Being Playful is about looking at our lives at a holistic level, we are more than just our work and task list
In today's uncertain world - who doesn't want to adapt quickly to change, regain curiosity, determination and wonder and quite simply - have more laughter and fun in their lives?
Because we are so passionate about the benefits of having a more playful mind-set - we created an Upskill (our name for a course or masterclass) called Being Playful you can discover it HERE - why don’t you give it a try and see what happens!
