We can all build mental strength!

Mental Strength is the new Zeitgeist – we all deserve the practical tools to mentally thrive!

You know the great news? When we think about living a great life, we often think of having great energy, and when we think of energy, we often think in terms of batteries. What is fabulous is that when it comes to mental strength – spending time doing the things we really, truly want to do, the actions which are aligned with our values, our own unique vision of our own life – rather than depleting our batteries, this gives us mental energy – it actually refuels our batteries and builds our mental strength. Mental strength really is the new Zeigeist…

Talent, skill and knowledge? We are increasingly recognising the much more important ingredient - mental strength

Mental strength is often linked to top performers, from Tom Daley - the British diver who competed in three prior Olympic games and only recently won his first ever Olympic gold medal in Tokyo, to Andrew Hoy - the Australian equestrian eventer who won both silver and bronze medals at the age of 62 and Kokona Hiraki who at 12, won a silver medal in skateboarding for Japan - their outstanding results speak to awesome mental strength

Elite athletes are taught that part of building mental strength is about how to keep their emotions in check, to stay in the present, not dwell on past mistakes and failures – if they let the past in all too often the result is they compromise their performance

This goes for all high performers and all high performance – in fact, in a world where so many of us feel stress and pressure - this applies to all of us, when we want to win in the game we call life

As Dr Sanjay Gupta - CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent tells us,

“Never forget that the brain is exceptionally plastic,” says Dr Gupta. “It can rewire and reshape itself through your experiences and habits, and a lot of this remoulding can be achieved in a mere twelve weeks. “It’s like building any other muscle.”

Whether you want to accelerate your productivity at work, smash more goals, exercise more, reduce your alcohol intake – or train for the next Olympic Games, adopting some of the psychological skills used by high performers to build your mental muscles and increase your mental strength will help us all win the game of life. So a first step could be how about today you reflect on how you can use the past as a spring-board for success in the present?

The ‘more good news’ is that today we have access to the most brilliant podcasts, books and blogs means we can all discover the latest findings from neuroscience alongside the wisdom of the Ancient Greeks. The insights are all there for us - yet if you are anything like a lot of people we meet, once we have finally found the best podcast, book or blog post we can waste hours listening, reading and watching yet never applying, never actually doing what it takes to put in the work and build our mental strength

So, the ‘even more good news’ is that to help you actually apply the insight and increase your mental strength...
